BroadwayTECH 2023
We just concluded our two-week BroadwayTECH career orientation program with the crew from COMPANY the Broadway National Tour. COMPANY was teching on the MainStage before its Broadway National Tour debut. Before a Broadway show debuts on tour, it has to build the set and coordinate the lights and sound. Proctors is lucky to be the stage where a lot of shows tech their show so Collaborative School of the Arts has the ability to work directly with a Broadway show while it’s in Schenectady for a longer period of time. Students in the BroadwayTECH program learn about dozens of career paths in technical theatre, stage management and more.
For two weeks, students participated in workshops involving costume design, scenic design, theatre programming, intro to puppetry, being a director, production and stage management, stage make-up, carpentry and so much more. Our students were instructed by the director of programming at Proctors Collaborative, the associate production manager at Proctors Collaborative, members from the Broadway Speakers Bureau of Broadway League, producer of creative arts at Siena College, the owner and CEO of Out of Hand Puppets and also had some time to speak to members of the crew from Broadway’s National Tour of COMPANY.
