Eisenhower Dance Detroit Teaches Workshop to Acting Academy Students

Eisenhower Dance Detroit (EDD) came to Acting Academy on Wednesday, Oct. 16, thanks to Union College’s Stephanie C. Davis Dance Residency. The Acting Academy students, who will be performing “Spongebob Squarepants: The Musical” in May, go to Proctors after school to put together a show in The Addy at Proctors at the end of the school year. In an hour-long workshop, Nirvan Singh and Olivia Sarvello taught the middle school students some dance techniques.

Originally from Brooklyn, NY, Singh attended Western Michigan University on a full-ride academic scholarship as a Medallion Scholar. Following graduation, Mr. Singh danced as a guest artist with Wellspring Cori/Terry & Dancers as well as dancing for two seasons with Eisenhower Dance Detroit where he is currently a company member. Nirvan is also a teaching artist at the School of Eisenhower Dance Detroit as well as other studios in the Metro Detroit area. In addition to teaching and dancing, he enjoys choreographing for projects when the opportunity is available.

Sarvello graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2023 with a BFA in Dance from Indiana University. In 2021, she earned her Mat Pilates certification from the Kane School in New York City. For the 2023-2024 season, Olivia apprenticed with Eisenhower Dance Detroit where she performed works by Stephanie Pizzo, Norbert De La Cruz III, Joshua Peugh, and Tamisha A. Guy. She is excited to continue dancing with Eisenhower Dance Detroit as a second-year apprentice. Ms. Sarvello is also a teaching artist for the School of Eisenhower Dance Detroit and other schools in the Detroit Metropolitan Area.
