Two HSMTA Students Head to Jimmy Awards

The winners of Best Actress and Best Actor of our annual HSMTA go on to represent the Capital Region in The Jimmy Awards®/The National High School Musical Theatre Awards® (NHSMTA®). This program impacts more than 140,000 students who participate in high school musical theatre competitions sponsored by presenters of Touring Broadway productions throughout the United States.

This past week Logan Esposito and Ashley Manocchi spent time in New York City preparing to perform in the awards ceremony. They went to various workshops with some of Broadway’s greatest, met some Broadway names like this year’s Tony Award-winning actor Ben Platt and Tony Award-winning composer Jeanine Tesori and even got to practice their chops with the press.

Corbin Bleu hosted the 14th annual Jimmy Awards ceremony taking place 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2023. This marks his second time in the role as he first hosted the ceremony in 2021. The Jimmy Awards returned to the Minskoff Theatre located at 200 West 45th Street in Manhattan. The evening featured the Inspiring Teacher Award presented by Wells Fargo.

Though Langston Lee from Rouse High School and Lauren A. Marchand from Jericho High School have won Best Performance by an Actor and Best Perfromance by an Actress at the Jimmys, we’re so proud of our local actors representing the Capital Region and working so hard at their performances.
