TheatreTECH

Ever wonder what happens before the curtain rises? At Proctors, students explore the lights, scenery, costumes, props, sound, and teamwork that make live theatre possible. Through hands-on learning, they will build practical skills and help bring Acting Academy and SCSD middle school productions to the stage. Students will develop technical theatre and media skills while supporting productions at OMS, MPMS, CPMS, and Proctors. Introductory workshops will cover essential production areas, followed by year-round projects that allow students to apply and strengthen their skills.

What Students Will Do:

  • Participate in hands-on workshops in stage management, costumes, scenery, props, sound, and other areas of technical theatre.
  • Analyze scripts and translate directors’ concepts into practical design and production choices.
  • Create scenic ideas that transform the stage and identify the props needed for each scene.
  • Serve as a designer or crew member on SCSD middle school and Acting Academy productions.
  • Collaborate with directors, instructors, and fellow students from the first concept through the final performance.

TheatreTECH is available exclusively to Schenectady City School District students in grades 6–8. SCSD provides transportation to and from Proctors (subject to restrictions).
