HSMTA Student Orchestra

As part of the High School Musical Theatre Awards, selected students will have the unique opportunity to collaborate in a live pit orchestra during the HSMTA ceremony. This hands-on experience allows young performers to sharpen their musical skills, gain real-world rehearsal and performance insight, and be an essential part of a fully produced awards show celebrating the Capital Region’s top high school talent.

Students from each qualifying school will have the opportunity to audition to join our pit orchestra for this year’s HSMTA ceremony that takes place May 16.

Participation in the pit orchestra is exclusively available to students from participating High School Musical Theatre Awards school programs, offering a rare chance to perform in a professional theatre setting alongside industry professionals.

Available instrumental parts: trumpet, percussion, bass, flute, clarinet, and saxophone.

Video submission deadline: Feb. 20

For auditions, please submit a 32-bar cut of you playing a piece from your school’s show. If you are not apart of the pit orchestra, please submit a video of you playing an excerpt from the Google Drive.

Also, every student auditioning must submit a letter of recommendation from their pit orchestra leader, or their band or orchestra teacher.

Please note that if you are auditioning for trumpet, there is a short additional excerpt you are asked to upload, that is also located in the Google Drive.
